Wizardpost: Staff and Belt

4/22/2024

Last time...

Previously, I had made a wizard hat and cloak. Those are pretty neat, but the cloak was a bit too flowy without being held down. So I designed a belt.

Wizard Belt

I did some research on types of belts, and came to the conclusion that I would go based on an old medieval style belt. They are generally long, and get tied in a knot at the end.

I used two pieces of leather layered on one another for fashion looks. Then, I attached them with brassy buttons. Finally, I took leather lace and tightly affixed both ends.

Wizard Staff

No wizard is complete without a staff. I traveled the woods near my house, which used to be an iron quarry, and found a fitting tree branch.

As I removed the bark, I realized this branch would appear very red, due to the iron content in the soil it grew in.

I polyurethaned it and learned how to wrap the handle in leather.

It took a few tries, but I eventually got it right.

Then, I went to a local crystal rock shop, and bought a large Selenium stone for the top. I attached it with leather lace and copper wire.

Collection

So at this point, I've got a decent wizard gear collection.

But I still feel like it's missing a few things, so stay on the lookout for another Wizardpost.
